Un signo eficaz de la gracia, instituido por Cristo y confiado a la Iglesia, por el cual la vida divina se dispensa a nosotros a través de la obra del Espíritu Santo (774, 1131). Los sacramentos (llamado "misterios" en las Iglesias orientales) son siete: Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía, Penitencia o Reconciliación, Unción de los enfermos, Orden sacerdotal y Matrimonio (1210).
