Vera Wang
Vera Wang (born June 27, 1949) is an American fashion and celebrity designer based in New York City. A former figure skater, Wang served as senior fashion editor at Vogue for 15 years and then as design director for Ralph Lauren before launching her own signature collection for wedding dresses. She enjoys a large clientele including many Hollywood celebrities for her wedding gown collections. In addition to her dress collections, she also designs lingerie, jewelry, and home products.
The daughter of affluent Chinese parents who immigrated to the United States in the mid 1940s from Shanghai, China, Wang was born and grew up in New York City. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in art history in 1971. During her teenage years, Wang frequently competed professionally in figure skating. She and her partner, James Stuart, placed fifth in the junior pairs competition in the 1968 and 1969 U.S. National Championships.
