Bases & wickets

Base: of or referring to three of the four corners that make up a baseball diamond. They are 12''X12'' white rubber squares that sickout about an inch out of the ground. It is at these bases that a runner in baseball is "safe" from being tagged or thrown out. Wicket: of or referring to a term used in the sport cricket. It is used for a few different meanings. Most of the time a wicket refers to one of two sets of three sticks that are stuck into the ground with a ball between each gap of the sticks. The batsman is supposed to protect the wicket from being demolished by the ball. If a batsman is dismissed, this event is also known as a wicket.
