Engine knock is characteristic of an uncontrolled combustion process and can cause engine damage. That is prevented by a knock sensor, a noise sensor near the engine. It senses knock and transmits information to the electronic engine management control unit. This influences process control in the engine, for example timing and fuel injection until knock is eliminated. Knock is frequently caused by fuel that does not comply with the required minimum quality.

The child restraint (CR) anchorage system in a vehicle is commonly referred to as the LATCH system, and is designed for simpler CR installation in the vehicle. It has two components: tether anchors and lower anchorage and guidance fixtures. The tether anchor is a permanent fixture in the vehicle for the sole purpose of securing the CR. Lower anchors are found between the rear seat cushion and the rear seat back.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have a whole series of technical advantages over conventional bulbs, the most important being their activation speed and their long service life. If a trailing driver can notice the brake lights of the leading car sooner, that driver’s reaction time can be quickened, potentially resulting in a shorter stopping distance and/or avoiding an accident. LEDs can last an entire vehicle lifetime, consume up to 50 percent less energy and take up less space. Selected Audi models use LEDs for rear light functions (tail lights, brake lights, turn signal indicators), in the side turn indicators, and in daytime driving lights.

The McPherson strut forms a connection between the wheel hub and the vehicle body. It has the following functions: to provide wheel suspension, to limit wheel bump and rebound, to attenuate vibration, form a flexible link at the attachment point on the body and to transmit steering movements.
